We started our holiday celebrations with an ugly sweater cookie exchange, but the idea quickly followed to add an employee raffle full of sought-after electronics. Soon, this became InfoMart’s best event of the year.
Ugly Sweater Party
Everyone wears their ugly sweater or a holiday character costume. These spirited, goofy getups set the tone for the event as a whole, including the cookie exchange described in my last post. We offer an additional door prize just for wearing an ugly sweater – after all, people deserve recognition for leaving their humility at the door and getting into the holiday spirit!
Tips for organizing an ugly sweater party:
- Send out notice well in advance. Give people time to mark their calendars, find their sweaters, or make a holiday-themed costume.
- Encourage participation. We give employees who dress up two raffle tickets – one for a large door prize, and the other for any raffle bucket of the employee’s choosing.
It is fun to dress up but having the extra motivation of two chances to win a prize heightens the level of participation.
Check back in on Thursday, when I’ll spill all the details on organizing and hosting our electronics raffle. Don’t forget to join me over on my blog for a more extensive look at two of our biggest year-end events: our daily raffle and awards ceremony.
